“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Words from the mouth of Jesus as he hung on the cross. These are not easy words to hear or comprehend. Did God forsake, turn his back on, abandon his Son?

SERMON TEXT
Matthew 27:45-46 (ESV)
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
SERMON NOTES
-
- Jesus gives voice to real human lament…it was a cry…to God
- Lament is not unbelief
- Jesus enters God-forsakenness, so we never have to
- He became sin for us even though he knew no sin
- God’s silence is not God’s absence
- It is not abandonment
- God is still at work even when He is quiet
- Jesus gives voice to real human lament…it was a cry…to God
Jesus went through the darkness so that we can have light and life. Are you walking in the light, or are you still in the dark?
The choice is yours!
